West Region
The village of Somerset is perched atop the Pembina Mountain with an unparalleled view of the St. Léon wind farm and the beautiful patchwork of surrounding fertile fields.
Many settlers came to live in the region at the end of the 1800s. The name of the village commemorates Somerset, in England, the birthplace of many of these first settlers.
Come and enjoy the beautiful landscape and visit the Gabrielle Roy Museum, which houses a collection of objects that once belonged to the Roy family as well as letters written by Gabrielle Roy herself. During the summer months, you can fill your basket at the Somerset Farmers’ Market, where you’ll find fresh produce, crafts and other local culinary specialties.
A visit to Manitoba means travelling through Treaty 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 territory and communities signatory to Treaties 6 and 10, the original lands of the Anishinaabeg, Anish-Ininiwak, Dakota, Dené, Iiniwak, and Nehethowuk and the homeland of the Métis Nation. Its ongoing existence is thanks to these ancestors and their present day relatives who continue to love and care for the land.
