Culinary, Shop local
The return of sunny days is coming, what better way to take full advantage of it than to go to the local ice cream shop with your family! Here's a list of some of our favourite ice cream places in Manitoba where you can enjoy your first ice cream of the season!
Dug & Betty’s Ice Creamery, located on Des Meurons Street in the heart of St. Boniface, is the latest brainchild of chef Fern Kirouac, who is well-renowned for his restaurant InFerno’s bistro just across the street. Dug & Betty’s offers an unparalleled dessert experience, specializing in small-batch, gourmet ice cream. Their wide range of unique flavours – like Earl Grey tea or strawberry with honey balsamic vinegar and black pepper - will be sure to impress. It’s a truly artisanal ice cream shop!
Brian’s Drive Inn is well-loved by residents of the community of Lorette. With reason! You will be sure to find something to satisfy your sweet tooth among its varied gelato offerings.

The community of Somerset, nestled in the Pembina Valley Region, is home to the wonderful GG’s Drive Inn. With a variety of different ice cream flavours, GG’s Drive Inn is a perfect spot to cool off and to spend some quality time with the family. We are particularly smitten by their dip cones, which come in many different varieties such as blueberry and peanut butter.
What’s better than some ice cream at the beach? The Barefoot Cafe, located in the beautiful and pristine St. Malo Provincial Park, is truly dedicated. It even operates a food truck that serves only ice cream and other desserts. The Barefoot Café’s dedication to all things sweet is on full display in its menu, which offers many different soft and hard ice cream flavours.
Fête Ice Cream and Coffee, a recently-opened local business situated in the heart of Winnipeg, offers ice cream, coffee, and pastries all made on site. Fête’s ice cream flavour offerings are truly unmatched and are in constant evolution : peanut butter base with chunks of chocolate covered pretzels, Lemon Meringue or strawberry rhubarbe crumble, you’ll be spoiled for choice!
Vicky’s Drive Inn is a seasonal drive-in specialized in Greek cuisine, located right on Central Avenue in the community of Ste. Anne. In addition to their famous burgers and fries, Vicky’s is well-known for its thick and creamy milkshakes. With flavours like chocolate, blueberry, and even root beer, a stop at Vicky’s is always a treat!
Right across from St. Georges beach, nestled on the banks of the Winnipeg River, you can find the Rapid Water Market Deli. Every time we go, we are more and more impressed by its fresh and authentic gelato. It’s true: Rapid Water Market Deli specializes in classic as well as more unorthodox gelato flavours, like red velvet and roasted marshmallow.
Bigway is St. Pierre Jolys’ local grocery store! But it’s not just any old grocery store: in it, you can find a gelato stand stocked with a wide range of delicious flavours. A perfect spot, then, to indulge in a fresh gelato after a trip to one of St. Pierre’s multiple tourist destinations!

And if you need inspiration to choose the taste of your ice cream, here are the favorite flavors of the CDEM Tourisme team: Salted Caramel for Melody, Ferrero Rocher for Katie, Rim and Irina, Lemon for Laura, Strawberry Cheesecake for Sylvie, and Chocolate for Anselme!
A visit to Manitoba means travelling through Treaty 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 territory and communities signatory to Treaties 6 and 10, the original lands of the Anishinaabeg, Anish-Ininiwak, Dakota, Dené, Iiniwak, and Nehethowuk and the homeland of the Métis Nation. Its ongoing existence is thanks to these ancestors and their present day relatives who continue to love and care for the land.
