Qui dit l’été au Manitoba, dit le golf !
Did you know: Manitoba is home to the first golf course in Western Canada, which was built in 1889? Ever since then, the sport has been incredibly popular among Manitobans. Indeed, the province has produced some of the most famous professional golfers in Canadian history! Certainly, you don’t have to be a pro to enjoy one of the province’s many golf courses. Here are some of our favourite golf courses in the province — because summer time in Manitoba means tee time!
Located in the rural community of La Broquerie, La Broquerie Golf Club offers an 18-hole golf course that highlights the natural beauty of the region. The course also features a number of challenges for all ages and skill levels. After your match, why not enjoy a delicious snack or meal at Putter’s Grill, the club’s restaurant?
Oakwood Golf Club is a pillar of the bilingual village of Ste. Anne. Its course caters to every type of golfer by offering 9 as well as 18 hole matches. Looking to practice your swing before stepping foot on the course? Lucky for you: Oakwood Golf Club offers a driving range, two putting greens, as well as courses for beginners. By the end of the season, you’ll be a natural!
Nestled at the banks of the Seine River in the community of Lorette, Lorette Golf Club is among the best golf courses in the region of Winnipeg. Its nine-hole course is meticulously landscaped, and its fairway is always perfectly maintained. Lorette Golf Club also offers regular tournaments for its members, making it a friendly and welcoming spot.
Pine Falls Golf Club opened in 1927, making it one of the province’s oldest golf courses. The scenery that surrounds it is unparalleled. For instance, a few holes offer a view on to the majestic Winnipeg River, while others wrap around a natural creek. Pine Falls golf club also offers the opportunity to perfect your swing on its driving range. It’s a truly unique and special gem of the Eastman region!
Maplewood Golf Club is located in the Village of St. Pierre Jolys, at the banks of the winding Rat River that runs through St. Pierre. The demanding character of the course makes Maplewood a spot full of rewarding challenges for the beginner as well as the seasoned golfer. The Club also offers memberships at low prices and league play. Also: the CDEM will be holding its annual golf tournament at Maplewood Golf Club on August 19, 2021!
Situated in the historic Métis community of St. Laurent, Manipogo Golf Club is a true hidden treasure! The golf course offers a number of amenities, including a driving range, a putting green, and a licensed restaurant. Our recommendation: after your match, go cool off and relax at one of the many beaches in the area, such as Twin Lakes Beach or the beach at St. Ambroise Provincial Park.
A visit to Manitoba means travelling through Treaty 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 territory and communities signatory to Treaties 6 and 10, the original lands of the Anishinaabeg, Anish-Ininiwak, Dakota, Dené, Iiniwak, and Nehethowuk and the homeland of the Métis Nation. Its ongoing existence is thanks to these ancestors and their present day relatives who continue to love and care for the land.
