The Fort is a reproduction of the original built by the North-West Company around 1810. During the fur-trade era the Voyageurs, also known as “coureurs des bois”, worked tirelessly for companies like the North-West. It is said that in the 1800’s their numbers were around 5000 working west of the Great Lakes. The Fort surrounds log cabins (store, smithy, trading post) and la Maison du Bourgeois, central building which combines modern comfort and rustic decor. Fort Gibraltar and la Maison du Bourgeois may be booked for group functions year round. Also, during the summer season, many costumed characters will be pleased to guide you on a interpretive tour as you go back to the early 1800’s. It is also the principal site for the famous Festival du Voyageur, held every February.
